About Canada Steamship Lines
Canada Steamship Lines is a Canadian company, headquartered in Montreal, rich in history and tradition. The history pre-dates Canada itself, as Canada Steamship Lines can trace back its lineage to a riverboat company operating on the St-Lawrence River more than 150 years ago. The tradition is just as significant, with the company solidifying, as early as the 1900’s, its reputation as trendsetters in automated unloading equipment. From the introduction of its first dry bulk self-unloader in 1924, Canada Steamship Lines continues to be at the forefront of research and development of cargo-handling technology.

Canada Steamship Lines, including its team of 500 Canadian employees, are very much committed to Canada and throughout the years, the company has been successful in retaining its market share and position as a significant competitor in the Great Lakes and St-Lawrence Seaway market.

Canada Steamship Lines has recently invested in excess of $200 million to modernize its fleet and today, the company owns and operates the youngest, most technologically and environmentally advanced fleet of self-unloaders plying the waters of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway. This fleet permits the company to offer versatile, reliable and flexible services suited to respond to its customers’ needs. Canada Steamship Lines is part of the lifeblood of many industries providing the necessary vehicle for the transportation of dry bulk products such as iron ore, coal, grain and gypsum.

Canada Steamship Lines spends more than $100 million per year on Canadian goods and services in addition to $16 million per year for the maintenance of its vessels.

Canada Steamship Lines is part of the Canadian based CSL Group, which includes CSL International of Beverly, Massachusetts, USA. Together, Canada Steamship Lines and CSL International manage the largest fleet of self-unloading vessels in the world and handle annual bulk cargo movements totalling over 30 million tonnes.
